"We are one global family
All colors, All races
One world united.
We dance for peace and the healing of our planet Earth
Peace for all nations.
Peace for our communities.
And peace within ourselves.
As we join all dance floors across the world,
let us connect heart to heart.
Through our diversity we recognize Unity.
Through our compassion we recognize Peace.
Our love is the power to transform our world
Let us send it out
NOW..."

The highlight of the Earthdance International event is a synchronized dance floor link-up, when the specially created song, "The Prayer for Peace" is played at every event across the world at exactly the same time.  Morning in Australia, sunrise over the Himalayas, midnight in London, afternoon in California - the universal prayer is a powerful moment that unifies our intention for a peaceful world.

Creating Systems of Regenerative Abundance: Permaculture & Food Forests for Ecological & Economic Resiliency

Presented by:
Max Meyers, Jay Ma, Sage Mata

Creating Systems of Regenerative Abundance: Permaculture & Food Forests for Ecological & Economic ResiliencyImagine a forest where every single tree is dripping with fresh fruits and ripening nuts. Every shrub is packed with delicious berries, and every other plant is a medicinal herb, culinary spice, or beautiful edible flower. Tubers and root crops are abundant underfoot, gourmet mushroom logs sprout in the shade, and hardy kiwi vines climb back up through the layers of this multi-functional forest of food. Food forests are diverse gardens modeled after natural ecosystems designed to mimic the way a forest thrives and regenerates. By recognizing the self-supporting, mutually beneficial relationships of the elements in a forest and designing components that are preferred edibles and more useful for humans, the forest then becomes a Garden of Eden, in which edible or useful plants are found from head to toe, where something in season is always ready to eat, and the system requires little or no maintenance to sustain and regenerate. Join the campaign for ecological and economic resiliency and learn how you can help to transform gardens, lawns, parks, and empty spaces into thriving edible landscapes that are beautiful, regenerative, and produce an abundance of delicious, locally grown food!

Explore soulful body awareness through breath, through beat, through dance, through movement..! Continuous, improvisational elements blend East, West and World grooves with ambient sound landscapes, moving you through an energetic wave into a blissful stillness at journey's end.

GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS

* Please don't treat Kidlandia as a day care center. We encourage all parents to participate in the activities.

* Children can easily get lost. Please locate a good rendezvous point in the festival and let your child know where it is, in case they get lost. (The security booth is a great place).

* We will be placing wristbands with the names of parents on all young children. Please make sure you take your child to the box office or security booth for a band.

* Please be aware that the sound system on the Main Stage can be very loud and can hurt young children's ears. This is especially relevent for babies, who have fragile skulls that sound can penetrate. Earplugs are not sufficient protection.

* Don't forget those hats and sunscreen, especially for babies.

Paintings For Peace
Since 2002, Earthdance has been recreating an innovative media concept where live art meets live music.  During every musical performance on the main stage, artists capture the energy by creating spontaneous paintings alongside the bands.  These paintings are exhibited in a special gallery on site and will be sold to the public via a silent auction with 50% of the proceeds being donated to the Earthdance Foundation.
Nikki Anderson
Nikki Anderson is a 28 year-old artist from Santa Cruz, CA. Passionate about her art she also teaches art to youth at alternative education schools, juvenile hall, group homes, and at a community center in downtown Santa Cruz. She has been oil painting since the age of eight and continues to explore and express through painting, drawing and new mediums like jewelry, ceramics and photography. Nikki has a BA. in Fine Arts from UCSC with a focus in painting and drawing.
Matt Jones

Fishing, waves, love and of course good music have always been an energy that runs through my paintings. The most important ingredient in my art is getting out of the way of myself and channeling the universe through me, which is something I had to discover myself, I couldn't learn it in school. I consider myself a self taught artist with some inspiring teachers along the way. My stlye include everything from commissioned photo realism, portraits, landscapes trout art and my latest genre is Live Art in front of live music. I first participated in Paintings for Peace in 2004, at the Earthdance festival northern California.

Xavi Panneton
I feel Art has the power to heal. My intent is to create harmonious, colorful flowing forms and spaces that all interact with each other through a geometric language of creation formulas. These formulas are evident in cell structure, snow flakes, bubbles, honey combs, atoms, molecules, and beyond. Seeing large luminous paintings, depicting our source structural intention can help set us back into alignment. I see Art through the eyes that see the world around me. It is a world of unfathomable creation and magnitude. So, I see the creation of Art that attempts to reflect the true power and beauty of its own source. My ultimate goal is to create large scale works of art that blow open the new visionary horizons and remind people of how much beauty there is deep inside our battered hearts." Xavi creates in San Francisco, CA
Luke Brown

Luke Brown is an intrepid explorer, part of a new generation of visionaries recontructing the templates of culture as we know it. His art speaks of the spiritual mysteries in the human imagination. Mystical experiences, dreams, medicine journeys, and channelled lucid dialogues with the source of creativity itself, seem to guide and be guided by the colourful symmetries and living surfaces of his art. Much of his work emerges from a graceful synthesis of digital and painting mediums. Developing his work through mix and remix technologies, Luke is constantly redefining his style as a spiritual medium for growth. He is intent on mapping his hyperspatial experiences with utmost accuracy, with whichever medium seems best suited, as a form of multidimensional cartography.

His art has been shown internationally with such visionary heavyweights such as Alex Grey, HR Giger, Robert Venosa and Ernst Fuchs. He is currently a resident of the lush Elfinstone rainforest in BC Canada, one of an infinite number of parallel universes in which he resides within simultaneously.

Carey Thompson
Carey much of his inspiration exploring countless natural power spots and Mesoamerican sacred sites where he developed a keen interest in ancient cultures and their expression through the arts and cosmology. He currently resides in San Francisco, California where he now focuses on his artistic endeavors. Carey describes his work as holomorphic transmission vision crystals. The imagery channels through, sourced from the universal matrix, and crystallizes into form onto templates based on sacred geometry and other patterns of nature. Beginning usually with only a seed of intention, the color and form evolve unconsciously to create the finished art. Revealing the interconnectedness of all things is the primary intention of Carey's artwork.
David Heskin

Through endless vision questing and a transfixation on multidimensionality, combining symbolic imagery with deep memory and aligning with the Alloneness of our Sacred Source.. David represents this altarworldly journey Through a lens which acknowledges simultaneously infinite largeness and infinite smallness His paintings always illuminate deeper synchronicity than premeditation would allow for, achieved by stepping out of the way and into the Way, becoming a channel for Pure Creativity to pour forth

Roman Villagrana

Roman Villagrana creates art as a campaign to inspire visionary community, setting out to influence others to create by portraying a universal and harmonic culture he calls "Tribe13" is his mission. Believing in the representation of myth creating reality powered by faith is his message. Art to him is a reflection of life and it's infinite potential. Roman has help bring forth Tribe13 and the Interdimensional Art Movement as platforms for visionary community building and harmonic culture manifesting and hosts the annual Interdimensional Art Show in Seattle showcasing leading visionary art, music and fashion from around the world. You can see Roman at art shows or live performance painting at conscious events throughout the west coast and abroad including Canada and England. Check out www.artbyroman.com for schedules and booking.

Tom Griffin

Tom has enjoyed art in one form or another for most of his life. His paintings have a dream like quality to them much like the childhood he remembers. Some of his paintings are as simple as a flower with a butterfly and others are more complex with deeper spiritual feeling and meaning.

What excites Tom most about creating art is the knowing that every brush stroke has the potential for something amazing. This is also the manner in which he chooses to live his life. Tom hopes that his work can bring inspiration to the ones that view it so they can take that and turn it into something for themselves. Tom currently lives amongst the trees on beautiful Whidbey Island with his wife and son where he can still be caught from time to time staring at those big wonderful bumblebees.

Carmel Reyes

Carmel Reyes have been living, loving, painting, and playing in Humboldt County since 1996. My art is highly influenced by the plant, animal, and elemental enregies of Northern California. My art also draws much of it's energy from the local music and dance culture.

GARBAGE WARRIOR

Directed by Oliver Hodge

86 Minutes

Garbage Warrior What do beer cans, car tires and water bottles have in common? Not much unless you're renegade architect Michael Reynolds, in which case they are tools of choice for producing thermal mass and energy-independent housing. For 30 years New Mexico-based Reynolds and his green disciples have devoted their time to advancing the art of "Earthship Biotecture" by building self-sufficient, off-the-grid communities where design and function converge in eco-harmony. However, these experimental structures that defy state standards create conflict between Reynolds and the authorities, who are backed by big business. Frustrated by antiquated legislation, Reynolds lobbies for the right to create a sustainable living test site. While politicians hum and ha, Mother Nature strikes, leaving communities devastated by tsunamis and hurricanes. Reynolds and his crew seize the opportunity to lend their pioneering skills to those who need it most.

OIL ON ICE

Directed by Dale Djerassi & Bo Boudart

56 Minutes

Oil on Ice Oil on Ice explores the dangers and consequences that surround opening one of America's last great wild places – or any protected wild place, for that matter – to exploration and exploitation. Interviews with esteemed arctic biologists and environmental experts deduce that hybrid cars and renewable energy sources are viable short- and long-term solutions to the nation's dependence on oil for energy. Native Inupiat Eskimos and Gwich'in Indian activists share their heritage and way of life, and express on camera how their entire way of living is at risk due to oil drilling. The Gwich'in Indians, for example, describe how they have depended on the Alaskan caribou for food, clothing, tools and their spirituality for generations. The environmental impacts of oil drilling, however, are driving caribou and other wildlife away, changing the way the native people have lived with them for centuries.

AMERICA'S LOST LANDSCAPE: THE TALLGRASS PRAIRIE

Directed by David O'Shields

60 Minutes

AMERICA'S LOST LANDSCAPE: THE TALLGRASS PRAIRIE

AMERICA'S LOST LANDSCAPE: THE TALLGRASS PRAIRIE tells the rich and complex story of one of the most astonishing alterations of nature in human history. Prior to Euro-American settlement in the 1820s, one of the major landscape features of North America was 240 million acres of tallgrass prairie. But between 1830 and 1900 -- in the span of a single lifetime -- the prairie was steadily transformed to farmland. This drastic change in the landscape brought about an enormous social change for Native Americans. In an equally short time their cultural imprint was reduced in essence to a handful of place-names appearing on maps. The extraordinary cinematography of prairie remnants, original score and archival images are all delicately interwoven to create a powerful and moving viewing experience about the natural and cultural history of America.

ISLAND OUT OF TIME

Directed by Hugh Drescher

30 Minutes

ISLAND OUT OF TIME Smith Island in the Chesapeake Bay is home to just over 400 people who have made their living from the water for more than a century. But now the island and its culture are under assault by rising sea levels, erosion, population loss, and a decline in the oysters and crabs its people depend on. The film shows how islanders are fighting to survive and struggling with change and loss. It is a story told by a quirky cast of islanders: watermen, preachers, crab-pickers, lawmen and environmentalists. "We're so stubborn," says one waterman, "they're going to have to drag us off of here kicking and screaming."

THE PLOW THAT BROKE THE PLAINS (1936)

25 Minutes

THE PLOW THAT BROKE THE PLAINS (1936)With The Plow That Broke the Plains, his first film and the first US Government-sponsored documentary, Pare Lorentz won praise and wide recognition for using sensitive photography, dramatic editing and a beautiful score by composer Virgil Thomson to illuminate a local problem of national importance – the challenges faced by wheat farmers and cattle ranchers in the Great Plains. As the film climaxes in a vivid portrait of the record drought that produced the dust bowl and the plight of the "blown out, baked and broke" people who felt its impact, it becomes clear that a new master of the documentary form has found his voice.

THE RIVER (1938)

31 Minutes

THE RIVER (1938) In The River, Pare Lorentz deploys powerful images, a poetic Pulitzer Prize-nominated script and another score by Virgil Thomson to illustrate the problems of flood control on the Mississippi River and the efforts to correct it. While arguing that the building of dams would put an end to the destruction of crops and property brought about by the havoc of annual floods, Lorentz reveals the ways the river has been misused, and presents a stirring paen to America's natural landscape, and the proud history with which it is imbued. 31 minutes

Salmonid Restoration Federation

SALMONID RESTORATION FEDERATION
Website: www.calsalmon.org/

SRF is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of California's salmon, steelhead, and trout populations and their habitat. SRF educates individuals, organizations, and agencies about innovative techniques for salmonid restoration by sponsoring an annual conference in California and operating technical field schools. SRF is devoted to educating the community on the ecology and economy of restoring natural resources for future generations of fish and people. We are interested in building a sustainable economy in rural areas so people in the restoration field can make a living wage while restoring the natural environment.

THE SALMONID RESTORATION FEDERATION...

...was founded in 1987 by members of several local restoration groups who wanted to create an information clearinghouse for groups like theirs, and to organize an annual conference. The Federation is a nonprofit organization funded by membership dues, donations, workshop and conference fees.

Our two main objectives are:

  • to improve the effectiveness of California's salmonid restoration efforts
  • and to develop the public and political support that is essential for maintaining and expanding restoration program efforts.
Salmon, steelhead, and trout restoration projects fall into three general categories: Habitat restoration and enhancement, fish population enhancement (pond rearing operations), and community outreach and public education programs. These projects are undertaken primarily by private contractors (mainly nonprofits, American Indian tribes, and local governments) and most are state grant funded.

EARTHDANCE 2009 HIGHLIGHTS
2009 Astrological Forecast
Astrological ForecastReturning to the Sun in Libra for 2009 after a long absence, Earthdance creates a Harmonic collective focus on Sharing and Beauty, with an edge of relentless transformation provided by the Sun Square Pluto. For the first two days, the Moon, while starting in Sagittarius, travels though Capricorn, placing an emphasis on respect for the knowledge of the Elders and the energy of the need for purpose. Mercury is conjunct Saturn in Virgo and both oppose Uranus in Pisces, imparting an overtone of the established (Saturn) being confronted by the new, more collective action energy of Uranus. This opposition, which occurs five times before it runs it's course, started the day Obama was elected and will continue to create a showdown between the vested interests and those energies whose purpose is to serve the collective good and dissolve the resistance of the self serving old order. In the environment of creativity and entertainment of Earthdance, these energies create spontaneous connections which allow people to realize their shared purpose in supporting the Green ethos. Mars is also trine Uranus which creates a fantastic feeling of spontaneous actions and expressions of sudden passion. With Mars also sextile Mercury and Saturn, this action/passion energy is able to be focused and applied, especially in forms of communication and ideas. The Sun is 3/8ths from Jupiter, an energy of transformation connecting the creative confidence of the Sun with the expansive, optimistic energy of Jupiter. This creates a charged flow of intensity that supports expanded goodwill and generosity. Neptune is also conjunct Chiron which creates a far reaching overtone of unique healing vibrations to be shared in the Aquarian flowering of the overall event.

Thanks to Dusty Parks for providing the following reading. www.astrology3d.com

In the midst of peace, happiness and a beautiful community spirit, a solid sense of responsibility radiates from this year's Sun in Libra Earthdance astrological chart. The triple Aquarian conjunction of beneficent Jupiter, curative Chiron, and Divine Neptune, sends a powerful celestial message: that immense transformational healing can be reached through a critical spiritual mass, by elevating group consciousness to feel the cosmic love vibration. At the moment of the 'Prayer for Peace', there is a Medicine Buddha Moon to bring in and hold positive remedial qualities: Harmonising past with future destiny enables one to embrace change with a collective understanding that combines science and magic, rational and intuitive, youth and age, to co-create a sustainable Earth.

At the same time, brilliant altruistic values resonate with compelling discipline; wanting to make the world a better place is strengthened by acknowledging personal freedom and trusted, heartfelt friendships. An Elders Council, backed by the Spirit of the Sun with authoritative Saturn, as Lord of Karma, provides much-needed support detailing the importance of the task ahead – which is nothing short of healing our beleaguered planet - and acts as a gentle reminder of the need to unconditionally forgive those who have been a part of past negative policy. The power of prayer is mighty indeed, and compassion compelling. The overwhelming impression that emerges from this 13th Earthdance is how aware, pragmatic and wise we can be in order to overcome fear and empower the true nature of the creative human Spirit.

MYTHMAKER PRESENTS: The Prophecy - Quetzalcoatl's Return

MythMaker Presents The Prophecy - Quetzalcoatl's ReturnMythMaker Productions presents and ancient Aztec/Mayan legend performed as a full musical/dance storytelling production. Ankle rattles, Aztec dance plumed feather costumes and amazing music accompanies this powerful tale of a society that became imbalanced and turned away from intuition.

Quetzalcoatl the great plumed serpent, created the Aztec empire, brought culture, writing and laws to the people. All was in balance until Tezcatlipoca, Quetzalcoatl's dark brother, began reflecting the imbalance of society and what is hidden within its inner shadows. Quetzalcoatl realized his mistakes in not seeking the balance of freedom and the unknown, so he left the land to seek balance. In his absence society became materialistic, self centered and detached from nature. The Prophecy of the maya/Aztecs claim that he will return with a message of balance and how to be at peace with each other and the earth. The time is NOW for Quetzalcoatl (consciousness) to return. Mythmaker merges the ancient art of storytelling and theatre with the dramatic skills of circus arts creating a multidisciplinary art experience, delving into the mystical, magical and profound. Their multi-dimensional performances strive to integrate a new cultural mythology through ritualistic performance art.
